Type Locality and Naming

Named after the village of Mizat, Tajikistan. O.N. Nikitina et al. in 1993 (460, p. 36-37). Stratotype near the village of Mizat, along the Tupolangdarya River.

Synonym: Mizat Suite, Мизатская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Crystalline schists: biotite, cordierite-biotite, amphibole-biotite, plagiogneisses with lenses of garnet quartzites and amphibolites. Thickness: 700m.

Lower contact

Underlying formations are unknown

Upper contact

Overlain with angular unconformity by the Urakh Fm.

Regional extent

Core part of the Tupolang Anticline (Tajikistan). In Uzbekistan, in the Southwest Gissar, Urakh Ridge.

Age 

Age is conditionally accepted as early Proterozoic based on litho-petrographic similarity of these deposits with the formations of the Khodzhabuzbak Fm, Malyand Fm, and Ailyangar Fm, and the development of migmatization and granitization typical for highly metamorphosed Proterozoic rocks of Southwest Gissar (Nikitina et al., 1993). S.K. Ovchinnikov (335), D.A. Rubanov (385) conditionally attributed these formations to the Proterozoic; A.V. Pokrovsky (349), I.M. Mirkhodzhaev et al. (307), V.E. Golovin et al. (1984), A.K. Bukharin et al. (122) consider them Lower Paleozoic; on the State Geological Map-500 of Uzbekistan (460), the suite is conditionally attributed to the Proterozoic.
